Stars Advance to West Final, Eliminate Avalanche in 2OT Thriller

The Dallas Stars wrote a new page in history by eliminating the Colorado Avalanche in Game 6 of the second round of the Western Conference. The highlight of the game was Matt Duchene's goal at 11:42 of the second overtime, sealing the 2-1 victory at Ball Arena in Denver.

When asked about his reaction after the decisive goal, Duchene humbly said: “I don't even know what I did. I know I ended up on my knees like the last time I had one in overtime, but I have no idea, to be honest with you. It's just elation, isn't it?

The winning play was set up by Joe Pavelski, who spotted the loose puck during a scrum in front of the net and sent a backhand pass to Duchene. The latter fired a precise shot over goalkeeper Alexander Georgiev, finding the back of the net just below the right faceoff circle

Pavelski himself commented on the action in these terms: “As I remember, it was a little back and forth. “Dutchy” was a great piece for me. I have a stick on it. It's just a battle. I caught “Dutch” out of the corner of my eye and just tried to get him out there. To me, you're fighting and you know it's happening to him, and I just watched the internet. It was nice to see him come in. »

This victory will remain engraved in the annals of hockey, testifying to the commitment, talent and determination of the Dallas Stars players. Fans will long remember this moment of glory which propelled the team to new heights in the competition.

The Stars are next to the Vancouver Canucks, including the Edmonton Oilers in the final of the Confederation Ouest, with Vancouver playing 3-2 before the six-game match before the same match. For Dallas, this afternoon the final conference contract, after defeats by the future Stanley Cup champions, the Golden Knights of Vegas, in six matches in 2023. One of the guards in Duchene, Jamie Benn has been in the market since the start of the new season, and Jake Oettinger has 29 arrêts for the Stars, which is in the Central Division. Entrepreneur Pete DeBoer is the owner of the equipment to receive new matches from the outside of a local, redoutable equipment, which will help the professional and the caracter are exceptions to these events. If the devices are closed, the equipment will be prepared with enthusiasm for the competition.

Mikko Rantanen scored and Georgiev made 36 saves for the Avalanche, who were the third seed in the Central. “It was tiring, no doubt about it,” Colorado coach Jared Bednar said. “You can see our energy level drop as the periods go by, but our guys played hard. They played hard every shift and defended hard. “It’s a very good team. They are disciplined. They are deep. They have excellent goalkeepers and are well coached. They have everything you could ask for in a team. They are a contender in my book. It stinks]. You invest so much into a season as a group and you fail. It's never a good feeling. Rantanen gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead at 5:48 of the second period on the power play, firing a wrist shot over Oettinger's shoulder from below the right circle. “It’s one of those where you feel like you played well enough to win the game and force a Game 7, but it just didn’t happen,” Zach Parise said. "Just a little shock when it suddenly ends like that. It takes a while to process everything, but it's just a tough way to end." Benn tied it 1-1 at 1:56 of the third. He received a behind-the-back pass from Evgenii Dadonov down the stretch and poked the stick past a sprawling Georgiev before scoring on a backhand into the open net. “We played a lot with the lead in this series, and then we were tested here by being a little behind,” Pavelski said. “I think in the second period we weren't great and we were pretty stubborn in terms of putting pucks in play and how we had to create. I think in the third period and overtime we were determined to do things the right way. And we tied that game up on our forecheck, creating time in the O zone. “Just a great play from [Tyler Seguin] and [Dadonov] and [Benn] to get us that one. It was a simple chip, leading down the middle. [Dadonov] makes a great play and [Benn] finishes it. That was kind of a major turning point for us. You could feel the legs coming for everyone. NOTES: Duchene became the fourth player in Stars/Minnesota North Stars history to score the series-clinching goal in a game that required multiple overtimes, joining Brenden Morrow (fourth overtime in Game 6 of the semifinal of the 2008 Western Conference against the San Jose Sharks), Brett Hull (third overtime in Game 6 of the 1999 Stanley Cup Final against the Buffalo Sabres) and Joe Nieuwendyk (third overtime in Game No. 4 in the 1999 Western Conference final in Edmonton). …. DeBoer earned his 17th series victory, tied for second among active head coaches. Only Jon Cooper (18) has more.
