SIDI ABDULLAH, Algeria – In a landmark move to modernize the country's higher education system, the Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, officially launched a remote payment service for international students. The launch took place at the Cheb Abdelhafidh Ihadadden Science and Technology Pole in Sidi Abdullah.
This new digital tool is the latest feature of the "Study in Algeria" (Aderess_bi Aljazair) program, designed to position Algeria as a competitive destination for global learners.
One Click, Few Seconds
According to a statement from the ministry, the new service allows any international student to pay their application and registration fees "with one click and in a matter of seconds." The process is touted as being both secure and transparent.
Officials describe this operation as "another building block in the path of digitizing and modernizing the Algerian university," signaling a sharp break from traditional, paper-heavy administrative procedures.
A Global Gathering
The launch ceremony was attended by several key figures, including the Wali (Governor) delegate of the Sidi Abdullah administrative district and a representative of the CEO of the Local Development Bank (BDL).
However, the most notable attendees were the international students themselves. The first cohort of the "Study in Algeria" program includes students from 48 different nationalities, showcasing the country's growing academic diversity.
The Road Ahead
By integrating fintech solutions into its academic framework, Algeria aims to remove one of the biggest hurdles for foreign students: complex payment logistics. This e-payment platform ensures that students can secure their academic files without the need for physical presence or cumbersome bank transfers, enhancing both safety and efficiency.
This initiative is part of a broader push by Minister Baddari to accelerate the digital transformation of the Algerian university, making it more agile, accessible, and aligned with global educational standards.
