According to France 24, the Supreme Court determined that Charles Sobhraj, 78, who has been imprisoned in the Himalayan republic since 2003 for the murder of two North American tourists, should be released for health reasons.
"Continued incarceration is incompatible with the prisoner's human rights," according to a copy of the verdict obtained by AFP. "If no other proceedings are pending against him to keep him imprisoned, this court orders his release today and (...) his return to his country within the next ten days."

Charles Sobhraj, encadré by policiers wearing gilets pare-balles and wearing a medical mask, a maroon chapeau, and a blue manteau, had made no comment to the crowd of journalists waiting for his release. "The Nepalese government wishes to have him returned as soon as possible. Sobhraj wants it as well ", according to his lawyer Gopal Shiwakoti Chintan, who stated that he had purchased a ticket on Qatar Airways departing at 18H00 (12H15 GMT). The serial killer was supposed to be released on Thursday, but his release has been delayed by one day due to logistical and legal issues.
